Sports photography involves a lot more than merely aiming your camera at an athlete and clicking away. It is tricky and hard to get the perfect catch or the perfect angle. It requires skill and to learn how to be a sports photographer, you must get started by reading books on photography and camera manuals.

Do a thorough research on cameras and buy one that is well equipped to take moving pictures with precision. Take classes in photography to get invaluable insights into the world of photography.

Become a member of your local photography club in order to build a good network of contacts. Start taking pictures of moving objects and gradually move on to faster paced situations like traffic. Experiment with different shutter speeds to get used to the photographic terminology learnt in your class.

Get free passes to your local sport events and get a close-up of the action going on. Take several moving shots and don’t get discouraged if you find your work sloppy. Keep trying until you get that one perfect shot.

Go to bigger sports like football and hone your skills in hitting at the right shots at the right time. Build up your portfolio in leather with the help of a professional photographer and attend interviews with photo editors.  To be a sports photographer, you need to understand the game to anticipate action to take the right shot.
